Summer Makeup Tutorial

Hello Ladies! Summer is nearly upon us and I've been tweaking my makeup routine to so it won't be quite as heavy for the summer months. Also, with the weather heating up, I've been looking for products with more staying power. So, without further ado, here it is!

  1. Start with a blank canvas. I always wash and moisturize my face every morning ( see this post ). After doing this, I make sure the moisturizer has dried in before I go onto the next step.

  2. Facial Primer. After moisturizing, you want to put a primer on so your makeup will glide over your skin. I use Clinique's  Super Primer Universal Face Primer. It's the only on that I have ever used that kept my makeup on all day. Even in the heat. It's very light and fragrance free, so it won't irritate sensitive skin.

  3. Foundation. The next step is to put on your foundation. I use Bobbi Brown's Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation in Beige (#3). It's really light, but has great coverage. It's also oil-free, so it won't break your skin out. The best thing about Bobbi's line is that they have a shade of makeup for just about every skin tone out there, so your makeup literally looks like your skin. It really gives a natural, healthy glow to your face.

  4. Eye Concealer. Always apply your concealer after your makeup. The reason for this is that you want to blend the concealer down into the makeup just a little bit to make everything look even. I also like to put a little in the corner of my eyes to brighten them up. I use Bobbi Brown's Creamy Concealer in Warm Ivory.  The best thing about this concealer is that is can be used on you face as well as your eyes. It's a win-win!

  5. Bronzer. This is the hardest part of makeup for me. Putting on bronzer can be tricky because you never know how much is too much until it's too late. So, I use a blush brush rather than a bronzer brush to apply bronzer. It goes on a lot lighter and you can angle it more when defining your cheek bones. The picture below this one illustrates what I mean. Suck in you cheeks and run the brush up and down the bottom of your cheek bone. Stop about half way down you cheek and go all the way up past you eye. If you really want to get fancy, you can put highlighter along the top of you cheek bone and blend the two together for a slightly more chiseled look. I use Clinique's True Bronze Pressed Powder Bronzer in Sunkissed.

  6. Eyebrows. I love the look of filled in brows. It really gives a nice definition to your eyes. Unfortunately, I never really learned how to do it properly, so I just use E.L.F.'s Lash And Brow Clear Mascara. You mold your brows into whatever shape you want and they will stay. All. Day. Long. They literally will not move. I love this stuff. Best part; it's only a $1!

  6. Eyelid Primer. Before you put on you eye shadow, prime your lids so you won't have to re-apply shadow in the middle of the day. It also makes the shadow's color a little bit richer. I use E.L.F.'s Essential Eyelid Primer. It's also only a $1, so it is definitely something to try. I mean, if you don't like it, you're only out one dollar. It's better than the expensive primers I've tried and it doesn't dry out my lids.

  7. Eyeshadow. For summer, or really for any time of the year, I like to use a really neutral shade of eyeshadow. My lids are a lithely bit deep set and when I would use a darker color, I ended up looking like I had two black eyes. Not good. So I started using a very warm, neutral shade of shadow and then using a liner over it for definition. I use Clinique's All About Shadow Single in Day Break. It's a great shade that can be worn with any lip color.

  8. Mascara. Mascara is one of those things that when put on correctly can pull the whole face together. I love how it brings my eyes to life. Right now I'm trying Makeup Forever's Smoky Extravagant Mascara. When applying mascara, make sure you start at the very base of the lashes and wiggle the brush slightly on your way up. The way, the whole lash is coated. I like to curl mine, but that's just a personal preference.

  9. Lip color. And last but not least, finish of your look with a touch of color to you lips. I usually wear lip gloss simply because it's light and natural looking. I wearing C.O. Bigelow's Mentha Shimmer Lip Tint in Bare Mint. I love these products! They are very soothing and moisturizing to your lips. They last forever as well. And you can't just buy one. I always have about 3 or 4.

Or you can put on a light shade of lipstick. Here I have on Makeup Forever's Rouge Artists Natural in Copper Pink (#9).

I hope this tutorial was helpful for you. It actually helped me to see all the steps I take documented in one place. I also never realized how bad I look in pictures with no makeup on. Yikes! Let me know what you think. What is your summer makeup routine?

  3. I think your new beauty blog looks great! I started following you on bloglovin' since I can't seem to get GFC to work :( I know you asked for some suggestions for beauty blogging but I think you are already on the right track. You are posting interesting content and your photos are of good quality. In the future, you may choose to add some navigation buttons at the top (reviews, swatches, etc.) so that readers can easily navigate your content. However, it's not always necessary. Keep up the great work :)
